Christopher Columbus makes his first voyage from Spain to the Caribbean aboard (coming across between 28 and 25 degrees north latitude) the Santa Maria, accompanied by the Pinta and Nina . Landfalls in the Bahamas (San Salvador/Watling Island)on October 12, 1492; later cruised Cuba and Santo Domingo; returned on Nina, thinking he had reached outskirts of China.
