Village (1990 pop. 2,618; 2000 pop. 4,001), at the mouth of the Mystic R., SE Conn.; 41º21'N 71º57'W. It is known for the Mystic Marinelife Aquarium, from which Robert Ballard and the Inst. for Underseas Exploration operate. Mystic Seaport Mus. chronicles the village’s historical importance in colonial Connecticut’s fishing and whaling industries and offers river and sound cruises aboard historic ships.
