Pamlico Sound

80 miles long. Sound/lagoon located south and east of Albemarle Sound, with openings/inlets to the Atlantic. Neuse River flows into Pamlico Sound; port of New Bern located there. Verrazzano misread Pamlico Sound to be the ocean washing Asia. During colonial period, Pamlico region served by two ports, Bath and Washington, both on Pamlico River.
