Spans New York Harbor linking eastern Staten Island (Fort Wadsworth) with southwest Brooklyn (Fort Hamilton). 4260' long, with twin towers of 690'. Named for Giovanni da Verrazzano, French explorer of New York Harbor in 1524. Tides are semidiurnal. Tidal current under the bridge in mid-channel flows and ebbs at 2+ knots; tidal swing averages 6'.
