Assistant Professor of Maritime History in the Department of Global and Maritime Studies, earned his degree in American History at the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. A member of the World History Association, the American Irish Historical Society, and the North American Society of Oceanic Historians, Dr. Lynch teaches courses in American and World Maritime History and is the founder and editor of H-Maritime, an international journal of maritime affairs.
Dr. Lynch has been instrumental in building working relationships with area maritime museums and with other maritime academies in the United States. A participant in Mystic Seaport's Munson Institute, Dr. Lynch is interested in developing the history curriculum at Cal Maritime in support of GSMA; to date he has developed new classes in World Maritime History; Race, Class and Gender in the Maritime World; The Sea; An Interdisciplinary Odyssey, and Bay Area Maritime History. His areas of specialization include nineteenth century American maritime history, and Irish American nationalism. His work has appeared in such journals as New York Irish History, the International Journal of Maritime History, Sea History, and The Northern Mariner.
