Formerly the merchant ship Black Prince. Acquired by the Continental Congress on 4 November 1775. Served Esek Hopkins as the jewel of his fleet, which included also the Andrew Doria, the Cabot, the Columbus, the Fly, the Hornet, the Providence, and the Wasp. John Paul Jones sailed her on a successful voyage to Nova Scotia, taking nine prizes along the way. She was captured in the West Indies while returning to the states with provisions from France on March 29, 1778. Discharged from military service in 1782.
