Requisitioned, along with the somewhat larger Pinta , from the northwestern Spanish town of Palos by Columbus at the order of Ferdinand and Isabella. Captained on first voyage by Palos sailor Vincente Pinzon. Rerigged in Canaries from lateen-rigged carave with 2 lateen sails on 2 masts to 3-masted combination of square and lateen("caravel redonda") as per the Pinta .
