Frigate. One of the six frigates authorized in Naval bill of 1794; fired upon boarded by HMS Leopard in 1807, with the resultant court martial of Captain James Barron. Lost in battle with HMS Shannon off Boston Harbor in 1813, with the loss of Captain James Lawrence's life. His last words were reported to be, "Boys, don't give up the ship."
